Keep sand out
- Mats outside and inside every door to the beach, pool and lanai
- A rinse station or shoe spot by the lanai door
- Dry-dust or vacuum before mopping, so sand isn't dragged across the floor
- Felt pads on furniture legs
Know your floor
| Floor | General care |
|---|---|
| Ceramic and porcelain tile | Usually tolerant of routine cleaning; follow the tile and grout maker's guidance |
| Natural stone (marble, travertine, limestone) | Sensitive to acidic and abrasive cleaners; use products the stone maker or installer approves |
| Grout | Can stain; sealing and deep cleaning schedules vary by product |
Check the Tile Council of North America and the Natural Stone Institute for care guidance, and follow your installer's or manufacturer's instructions first.
When to call a specialist
Etching, deep stains, dull stone and failing grout are restoration jobs, not cleaning. A qualified surface-care company can assess them.
